Stars, stripes and a Cleburne Fourth

This year’s Fourth of July festivities kick off with a parade in downtown Cleburne and wrap up with a fireworks blowout at Lake Pat Cleburne, all courtesy of the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce.

“Stars and Stripes Forever” is this year’s theme.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The parade will start at Broan Nutone Storage Solutions — formerly Rangaire — on Wilhite Street and continue down Westhill Drive, turning right on Caddo Street, left on Henderson Street, left on Main Street, and then left on Westhill Drive back to Broan.

Entries for the parade are still needed, chamber representatives said, and will be accepted until Thursday. The entry fee is $15. A prize of $50 will be awarded in five categories:

• Best theme entry

• Best parade entry

• Best vintage car entry

• Old-timer antique and classic car

• Uncle Sam’s choice

Entry forms are available at www.cleburnechamber.com or at the chamber office at 1511 W. Henderson St.

The chamber’s Fourth of July committee chose Lowell “Stretch” and Shirley Smith as this year’s parade marshals. They will lead the parade riding in a classic car driven by Tom and Tina Griffin of Griffin’s Classic Cars.

This year’s parade sponsors include H-E-B Food and Drug Store, presenting sponsor; Marti Enterprises, gold sponsor; and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, silver sponsor.

Fireworks

Fireworks will be fired from the Lake Pat dam at dark, about 9-9:15 p.m.

For information, contact the chamber at 817-645-2455.

Keene events

Keene will hold its Fourth of July activities the day after the fact, on Sunday.

A parade, beginning and ending at Pinnacle Bank, begins at 6 p.m. Registration for the parade begins at 4 p.m. in the Pinnacle Bank lot.

After the parade, a city celebration is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. in the Southwestern Adventist University gymnasium.

Music by Clay Read, Texas Tradition, Lanette Sanker and others is scheduled.

Activities include bounce houses, pony rides, dunk tanks, paint ball and more, not to mention plenty of food.

A drawing to be held during the city celebration will award one ticket holder a painting by local artist Sleepy Read.

Raffle tickets are $3 or two for $5. Tickets are available at Keene City Hall, Mandy’s Coffee and Bistro and Pinnacle Bank in Keene.
