Cleburne Regional Airport joins Greatest Generation Aircraft for a fun-filled, day-before-Easter celebration at the airport on April 23.
A World War II DC-3 will fly over the airport about 10 a.m. to jettison a load of plastic eggs and stuffed animals, complete with parachutes.
“It’s not everyday you see a historic World War II plane flying over Cleburne, let alone dropping a load of Easter eggs,” joked Dana Wood, Greatest Generation Aircraft public relations director.
Members of the organization hand make the parachutes for the stuffed animals, Wood said.
“It’s not like you can just go out and buy little parachutes,” Wood said. “But it’s a very colorful sight, like jellybeans falling from the sky. Then, when they get a little closer, you see all these stuffed animals parachuting in.”
Parents wishing to have their children participate in the fun should bring 10 plastic eggs per child to the Cleburne Regional Airport by 5 p.m. April 22. A coupon given for every 10 eggs dropped-off will serve as the child’s ticket to participate in the Easter egg hunt.
Hunts will be divided into three age groups: ages 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12.
Plastic eggs need to be filled with candy or toys. Candies must be individually wrapped. No loose or unwrapped candies, such as jellybeans, will be accepted.
Greatest Generation Aircraft also encourages businesses to donate candy and toy-filled eggs, which may also contain a coupon for their business. Businesses may also include a special egg with a unique prize if they wish.
Officials will recognize sponsors during the event and include their name in promotional information.
Greatest Generation Aircraft is a non-profit group dedicated to preserving vintage American military aircraft.
The group will offer DC-3 rides immediately after the egg drop as well. Pre-sold seats cost $45 each per seat or $50 each on the day of the event.
To purchase tickets ahead of time, call Dana at 817-659-9249 or e-mail greatestgeneration@yahoo.com.
In case of bad weather, ticket fees will be refunded or flights will be rescheduled depending on what the purchaser prefers.
The Cleburne Regional Airport is located at 1650 Airport Drive.
