Mariska Noatch experienced her first taste of fame within minutes of her birth.
The little girl was the first baby delivered in 2010 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne.
“When we got here, and they said they hadn’t had a baby yet this year, we were like ‘You’re kidding me,’ ” said Adrienne Noatch, the girl’s mother.
The Noatches were surprised because it was Jan. 4, several days after New Year’s Day.
Adrienne called her husband, Michael, when she started feeling cramps on Monday while at home with their 2-year-old son, and they arrived at the hospital at about 2 p.m.
“We got here, and another girl got here 30 minutes after me, so we were in a little rat race for first baby of the year,” Adrienne Noatch said.
The race didn’t last for long.
Mariska arrived at 5:17 p.m., three hours after her parent’s arrival at the Texas Health Cleburne, the same hospital where their son, Landon, was born in August 2007.
The same doctor, Dr. Steven Farzam, delivered both children.
The three-hour delivery of Mariska was a nice change from the 30 hours Adrienne was in labor with Landon, she said.
“It was like when it was done, it didn’t even seem like it had happened,” Adrienne said. “It was so quick and easy, it seemed unreal.”
“It was really quick,” Michael Noatch said.
Mariska weighed 8 pounds, 1.3 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.
For having the first baby of 2010, baskets of diapers, jumpers, toys and more from the hospital greeted them when they entered their room.
“It was like having another baby shower when we walked in here,” she said. “It was definitely a surprise.”
