Justin Hewlett, owner of Hewlett Office Systems, filed for the mayor’s seat in the May Cleburne City Council elections on Monday. Single Member District 4 Councilman John Warren filed to seek re-election to his seat on Monday as well.
Hewlett was the first candidate to file for any of the three races up for election this year. The filing period continues through March 8.
In addition to the mayor’s seat, Warren’s seat and the SMD1 seat is up for re-election.
“Several projects were put on hold because of economic conditions,” Warren said. “Some of those are slated to be completed in SMD4. I wanted to stay on the council to have a say on seeing those are finished.”
Cleburne Mayor Ted Reynolds earlier entered the Texas state representative District 58 race.
Reynolds will face the incumbent, state Rep. Rob Orr, R-Burleson, in the March 2 Republican primary.
Reynolds has not said whether he will run for re-election as mayor should he not succeed in his District-58 bid.
SMD 1 Councilman Bob Kelly has not announced whether he intends to seek re-election.
