Burleson FFA captured first place in agronomy to advance to nationals and also placed ninth in range and pasture, 23rd in horse judging and 13th in cotton in statewide contests at Texas Tech last week.
Burleson was also 17th in the poultry judging at Texas A&M.;
Burleson dominated agronomy with 928 points, 95 ahead of second place Ingram.
The Elks’ Talon Edwards was first individually with 322 points, Jessica Crecelius second with 321, and James Bobo fifth with 285. Katelyn Garcia had 134 points and was 44th individually. The top three scores count in the total.
Drew Cassens paced the cotton team with 820 points, followed by Houston Moore with 750, Edward Rockers with 730 and Elesia Salkazar with 680.
Chelsie Milan led the horse team with 424 points. Tori Jones and Chelsie Field had 403 each and Shannah Williams had 393.
Heather Tickner led the poultry team with 559 points. Katy Maness had 557, Katie Burchfield 541 and Ashley Adams 514.
In state competitions at Sam Houston State, Alvarado was seventh in floriculture and 33rd in ag mechanics. Alvarado was 35th in poultry at Texas A&M.;
Christi Renfro led the floriculture team with 868 points, followed by Alexis Williams with 864, Elizabe with 857 and Ashley Byrd with 845.
In ag mechanics, Kevin Bichell had an individual activity summary of 40 and exam summary of 46 for a total 109.
For the poultry team, Laura Hodges had 525 points, Stephanie Meehan 519, Travis Pruitt 485 and Naomi Nunez 468.
Joshua’s floriculture team was 18th at Sam Houston State. Ashlee Tidwell had 863 points, Kimberly Pritchett 849, Sarah Davison 796 and Lindsey Lee 785.
Grandview’s meats judging team was 20th at Texas A&M.; Tanner Schmidt had 660 points, Jake Miller 635 and Spencer Reeves 626.
Cleburne’s nursery-landscape team was 21st at Sam Houston State. Trent Campbell had 842 points, Joseph Snyder 837, Robbie Fossett 776 and Lexie Marchel 721.
Blum’s livestock judging team was 51st at Texas A&M.; Tyler Mackey had 599 points, Derek Williamson 588, Andrew Raulston 576 and Benjamin Raulston 569.
