A 15-year-old Cleburne boy died in a Monday accident southwest of San Antonio, which also injured two of his family members. Both Jose Sanchez of Cleburne and Edilberto Aguilar, 55, of Fort Worth were pronounced dead at the scene.
The wreck occurred at 2:55 a.m. at mile marker 129 of Interstate 35 SW, which is southwest of San Antonio near Natalia, Texas, said Sue Schepis, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.
The rear, left tire of a 1995 Ford Club Wagon carrying 15 passengers blew out and caused the vehicle to veer left, side skid into a center median and overturn, according to DPS reports.
The remaining 13 passengers suffered injuries, including Dorotea Sanchez, 43, and Esmeralda Sanchez, 10, Jose Sanchez’s mother and sister, both of Cleburne. Ambulances transported both to University Hospital in San Antonio, Schepis said.
The group was traveling to Mexico on vacation, according to a Fort Worth newspaper.
Sanchez would have been a sophomore at Cleburne High School in the fall, said Lisa Magers, CISD spokeswoman.
Warnings issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration state that 15 passenger vans are more likely to roll over when fully loaded.
