Johnson County basketball round-up

CLEBURNE — The Cleburne Yellow Jackets fell to Crowley, 52-36. The Eagles outscored the Jackets 16-1 in the third quarter.

The Cleburne Lady Jackets edged Crowley, 50-49, to improve to 6-1 in District 8-4A play.

The Joshua Owls fell to 0-19 on the season after an 81-45 loss to Waco.

Godley defeated Rio Vista, 65-54, as sophomore Devin Bolden led the Wildcats with 23 points.

The Lady Cats defeated Rio Vista, 51-28, to move to 6-0 in District 12-2A play.

The Burleson Lady Elks defeated Waco University, 59-33, to move to 5-2 in District 8-4A play.

Burleson fell to the University Trojans, 49-32, while the Centennial Spartans lost to Everman, 55-44.

The Lady Spartans defeated Everman, 48-37.

    For Alvarado junior Xavier Adams, the superlatives and awards keep rolling in. After receiving the most valuable player award in District 7-3A selections and being named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-state and all-region teams, Adams was also chosen as the MVP on the Cleburne Ford 2013 All-Johnson County basketball team.

    The Cleburne Lady Jackets went from cellar dwellers in 2011-12 to a playoff team in 2012-13, and superlative selections in the Cleburne Ford 2013 All-Johnson County girls’ basketball team reflect that 180-degree turnaround.
    Junior guards Bria McCullough and Courtney Jeffcoat shared the most valuable player award and Cleburne Coach Jamie Calahan was also recognized.

    The Cleburne Ford 2013 All-Johnson County girls’ basketball teams have been chosen, and all nine schools in the county are represented. Five different schools lead the way tied with three players represented in the first and second teams.

    While basketball season is over, the awards keep rolling in for Godley’s Maelan Brown as she was recently selected to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-region team and all-state team. She was previously selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state team.

    The Alvarado Indians’ season ended with a loss to Wichita Falls Hirschi in the area round of Class 3A playoffs, but with the majority of the team expected to return next year, along with the District 7-3A MVP in junior Xavier Adams, expectations are sky high for the Indians heading into the offseason.
