William P. and Ida Ruth Hallman will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 22, 2011. Billy and Ida Ruth are native Johnson County citizens. Billy grew up in Grandview while Ida Ruth is a native of Cleburne.
William Prestridge Hallman and Ida Ruth James were married in the newly completed sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Cleburne, Texas, on Nov. 22, 1942. Following their wedding, they left for Amarillo, Texas, where Mr. Hallman worked for Trader’s Oil Mill Co. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy. During the war, he served as first lieutenant aboard the U.S.S. LST 910 in the Pacific. Following the war, he worked for Trader’s Oil Mill, Kimball Grocery Co. and National Cash Register Co.
In 1951, the Hallmans returned to Cleburne where they opened Hallman Printing and Office Supply, which began a 27 year career in business in Cleburne. They are long time and active members of First Baptist Church in Cleburne.
During their retirement years they have enjoyed raising registered angus cattle and traveling. Their greatest joy is their family.
The Hallmans will be celebrating this wonderful occasion with a family dinner hosted by their children and spouses: Bill and Nancy Hallman; Jim and Kathy Hallman; and Ruth and Robert Scogin. Attending will be their grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kathryn and Jay Hall; James, Micah and Lucky Hallman; Jay, Callie, and Claire Scogin; Will Hallman; Mary and Dwayne Smith; Cara and Brett Olson; Kara Love; and Laura Beth Hallman. Also attending is Mrs. Hallman’s sister, Betty Pernell. Unable to attend is grandaughter Lee Hallman.
