Alvarado photographer featured in Texas Professional Photographer

ALVARADO — Local photographer Margaret Jackson was recently profiled in Texas Professional Photographer, the monthly publication of the Texas Professional Photographer’s Association.

Her award-winning photo, Satin and Boots, was used for the June cover. The photograph won a merit at this year’s Professional Photographers Association’s National Competition.

The article reveals Jackson’s journey into the world of professional photography, which began more than 25 years ago, when she walked into a local camera store to buy a new camera. Motivated by a salesman’s challenge, who advised that a professional camera would be too difficult for her to master, Jackson bought the camera and embarked on her career.

She has since been able to “succeed as one of the most impressive portrait photographers in Texas,” the article says.

Jackson has won numerous awards. Four of her portraits have made the prestigious Loan Collection, with two on exhibition at Epcot in Florida for several months.

A number of her photos have been published in the PPA Showbook, a collection of the year’s best professional photography.

She has earned her Master of Photography degree as well as her craftsman degree.

Jackson’s studio is located on five acres in Alvarado, and she uses items on the property, such as a century-old cabin nestled among oak and cedar trees, rail fencing, a waterfall and an old rustic Dodge pick up in her portrait work.

“I believe people still need an artist with a vision to help them capture the special portrait they are looking for,” Jackson said. “Timeless photography is a work of art, and it takes even more than vision to create a timeless work, it takes a lot of heart.”
